Email connection using SMTP/IMAP

1 - Setup Your IMAP

Open Gmail on your desktop and head over to the settings tab
Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab on the top
Select Enable IMAP and click on Save Changes

2- Enabling 2 Factor Authentication

Head over to your Google Account
Navigate to the Security tab on the left side
Select Enable 2 Step Verification if it not Enabled. In a situation it is, skip the rest of this step and go to the next
Click on get started
You’ll be prompted to add your password again, go ahead and do so
Verify the device to which you’d like to get the verification code
Type in your phone number
Enter the code you would have just received
Verify the details and click on Turn on
If you head back to the Security Tab, you should now see a tick mark next to 2-Step Verification

3 - Creating an App Password

Head over to your Google Account
In the search bar, search for "App Passwords" (Without completing step 2, you won't find app passwords in settings)
Select on App Passwords
You may be prompted to re-enter your gmail account password again, if so, please go ahead and type it in.
Type in a specific app name in "this-is-the-sample" in this format for ContactOut. Click on Create.
You’ll have a password generated as shown below, which you need to copy and keep safely

4 - Final Step

Click on "+ Connect new inbox" and select the SMTP/IMAP option.
  • Select "Gmail" as provider.
  • Fill each field as mentioned below,
    • From name - Sender Name
    • From email - Email address (valid gmail alias)
    • username - Gmail username
    • Password - App generated password from step 3
  • Click on Verify and Connect
